Think Green for Your Buildings Companies that pursue the objectives of the Green Building movement are experiencing significant long-term energy savings from 25% to 30%*.
Power Management can help you begin the sustainability process.
What is the Green Building Movement? The Green Building movement is an attempt to improve how buildings use energy,
water and materials. It is also about enhancing our communities and reducing the impact of building on our environment. This is achieved through better siting,
design, construction, operation, maintenance and removal-- what the LEED movement calls the complete building cycle. Of all the variables that determine the
classification of a Green Building as determined by the LEED rating system, energy is one of the most significant components.
What does LEED stand for? LEED is an acronym for Leadership in Energy and Design. It has been led by the U
.S. Green Building Council. In less than a decade, the U.S. Green Building Council
has emerged as one of the most successful examples of nonprofit membership organization development in recent history. With its focus on energy-efficiency and community impact, there is no better model for
designing the community of the future in a world of diminishing resources. Today, it includes nearly 4,600 member companies and
organizations -- representing more than 1000% growth in the past four years alone. During that same period, more than 168 million
square feet of commercial building space has been registered or certified under LEED, and the annual US market in green building products and services has exceeded $6 billion.
What can you expect from a Green Building? According to a California study, a minimal increases in upfront costs of about 2% to support green design would, on average, result
in life cycle savings of 20% of total construction costs -- more than ten times the initial investment. For example, an initial upfront
investment of up to $100,000 to incorporate green building features into a $5 million project would result in a savings of $1 million in
today's dollars over the life of the building. The benefits include cost savings from reduced energy, water, and waste; lower
operations and maintenance costs; and enhanced occupant productivity and health. There are also hundreds of case studies providing supporting results of significant savings.**
