What is Demand Response?

Regional ISO's are requesting large energy users to curtail their electricity use during periods of high demand on the regional grid.

In essence, companies are rewarded not to consume energy when the demand for energy is highest and most costly. The demand on the grid is decreased which reduces brownouts, eliminates the need to build new power facilities and cuts greenhouse gas emissions. In return, the energy user receives a credit on its next energy bill.

Power Management recently planned and implemented a project for a Western NY-based company that's committed to developing sustainable energy solutions.

It works like this- NYISO alerts our customer 12-hours in advance of the high-demand period; our customer turns off machines and equipment as directed. Once the high-demand period ends, our customer returns to business as usual. Our experience indicates that the financial rewards can be significant.

Is Demand Response Right for You?

Almost every utility, ISO and RTO have Demand-Response programs. We can help you assess their requirements, financial benefits and provide site analysis to determine how to best implement a program that will work seamlessly at your facilities. One note- these programs are designed for large users of energy.

Are There Other Tactics?
Demand Response Aggregation is another tactic which is usually managed by an aggregator who has signed up several companies and offers the combined load shedding resource to the regional utility or ISO.
