A major US brewer requested Power Management's LightSavers team to
identify energy savings and implement a lighting efficiency project for several of its facilities. For this case study, we are focusing on just one facility.
Power Management conducted an energy audit to determine efficiency opportunities. From the audit, our team
identified potential energy savings and capital investment requirements. The facility was using 400 watt metal halide light fixtures to light its 320,000 square foot warehouse.
We proposed that six lamp T8 high-intensity fluorescent light fixtures should be used to replace the existing 760
fixtures. The new fixture uses approximately 221 watts compared to 458 watts for the old fixture. A savings of over 50% in energy.
In addition 300 of the fixtures had occupancy sensors installed to further reduce energy usage. These sensors were added
to fixtures in locations where material was stored and had very little traffic.
Also included in 100 of the light fixtures was battery back capability to provide egress lighting.
The annual energy removed from the facility was 1,734,541 kWh, saving $133,559. The effective cost of the project
was $246,275 for a pay-back of 1.7 years. The total kWh saved was over 46% annually.
