We are pleased to announce that LightSavers Energy Efficiency plans that were proposed by Power Management Company will receive funding by NYSEG and RG&E as part of their Block Bidding Program. NYSEG AND RG&E BEGIN SECOND ROUND OF NONRESIDENTIAL
ENERGY-SAVING BLOCK BIDDING PROGRAM

First Round Awards $1.5 Million, Saves 6.5 Million Kilowatt-Hours of Electricity,
Cuts Greenhouse Gases by 3,250 Tons

Rochester, NY, November 10, 2010 – NYSEG and RG&E are again looking for innovative energy-saving proposals from nonresidential customers or third-party aggregators working with those customers. The proposals must have a minimum bid of 100,000 kilowatt-hours (kwh) of electricity and deliver the proposed energy savings after bid acceptance and no later than October 2012. Project proposals that save the most energy at the least cost will receive funding in the second round of the Block Bidding Program.
“Energy conservation is important to us. We join the Public Service Commission in encouraging all customers to increase efficiency and save energy,” said Mark Lynch, president of NYSEG and RG&E. “Our block bidding programs encourage nonresidential customers to submit innovative energy-saving proposals for evaluation and we will fund the projects that create the biggest energy savings for the least cost.”
NYSEG expects to fund approximately 7.2 million kwh of energy savings and RG&E plans to fund approximately 2.8 million kwh of energy savings in this second round of block bidding (see note below). While NYSEG and RG&E will review all ideas (the more innovative the better) some examples of potential block bidding proposals are:

  • A large renovation project that doesn't fit neatly into an existing NYSEG or RG&E lighting or rebate program and includes multiple energy-saving measures such as lighting and heating/ventilating/air conditioning upgrades.
  • An aggregated bid submitted by a third party from a number of customers whose combined energy saving projects such as lighting retrofits, chiller upgrades, electric heat upgrades, etc. meet the 100,000-kwh minimum.

First Round Winners
The winning bids from a pool of first-round bids that included projects from 48 customer locations across the NYSEG and RG&E service areas are:

  • Power Management, a Rochester-based energy services company, will implement energy-saving measures at 27 locations in the NYSEG and RG&E service areas. The total projected energy savings from the Power Management projects is approximately 3.2 million kwh of electricity through October 2012.
  • Energetix, a Rochester-based subsidiary of Iberdrola USA, will implement energy savings measures at 10 locations in the NYSEG and RG&E service areas. The total projected energy savings from the Energetix projects is approximately 2.8 million kwh of energy through October 2012. (Iberdrola USA is also NYSEG’s and RG&E’s parent company.)

Another lighting project that will save approximately 500,000 kwh of electricity through October 2012 is being finalized. NYSEG and RG&E approved approximately $1.55 million for these projects which will save approximately 6.5 million kwh of electricity through October 2012, and will eliminate 3,250 tons of greenhouse gas emissions.
